Why the English-speaking world is Babylon

There is by dint of coincidence a power in our sphere in Northern Ireland that has dominated our affairs and indeed the affairs of many countries around the world for the last several hundred years.

In other words there is by coincidence an oppressor empire just as the Jews coincidentally had an oppressor empire at the time of Christ and for several hundred years beforehand. That was the Roman Empire and it has been matched in size and brutality only by the British Empire that has dominated Irish affairs for eight hundred years.

MYSTERY

BABYLON THE GREAT

THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES

AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS

OF THE EARTH  (Rev 17:5)

Language is important when understanding Babylon. The title Babylon evolves from the Old Testament Book of Genesis when the Tower of Babel is being constructed by man. God doesn’t like the structure so he sends a curse to the men constructing it that sends them away speaking different languages. Babylon is thus a place where men speak the same language, and are thus both capable of constructing great structures and of offending God.

So when we refer to Babylon, we must refer to it as a place where everyone speaks the same language. I refer to it as the English-speaking world in the knowledge that my people also speak English, but that they are conscientious objectors to this new world.

So the coincidence is that England has oppressed Ireland for eight centuries, like the Romans oppressed the Jews; and now its language is used all over the world and thus a Babylon exists. Even the author of Revelation could not have conceived of the fact that his Babylon, which he thought would be the Romans, could have such a wide control of the language spoken in the world. His choice of the name Babylon for the Roman Empire can be seen as divinely-inspired when one realises that it turns out that it relates to the English-speaking world because the Romans did not try to change the language of those they oppressed.

But why blame all of the English-speaking world for the sins of England and the British Empire? I feel that this relates in no small way to the fact that English is conceived of as the language of capitalism. It is certainly the language of business.

God is simply saying that English is too powerful just as the single language was too powerful at Babel. He may be saying that the tower to the skies in today’s world might be the space ships that are constructed for billions of dollars in the USA, and fly in the face of the great needs of the impoverished in the world
